A beautiful ‘black’ pheasant which you might be lucky enough to spot if you’re walking around the countryside of the Scottish Borders. If you catch them in the right light you realise they’re not black at all, rather they are endless shades of blue green and purple. Just stunning.

I love the inquisitive nature of young cows. This one popped her head over a wall to say hello. Such a beauty I couldn’t wait to paint her.

Not quite a rabbit but ‘Peter’ couldn’t be a more appropriate name for this hare which I spotted bravely keeping watch as his family raced across a field.

There is something undeniably beautiful about a male pheasant strutting his stuff in the spring sunshine. Feathers glowing vibrant shades of gold blue and red. I never get bored of painting these guys.

This is one of my favourite paintings, such proud birds with the most impressive set of feathers. In the evening his feathers catch the light and glow.

I spotted this guy on a beautiful hot day sitting over the water at Traquair House. Traquair is known for hosting Kings and Queens in years gone by - not least Bonnie Prince Charlie for whom the famous Bear gates were last closed in 1745. I think this Kingfisher deserves a Royal name.

When the war in Ukraine began, I knew I wanted to do something to help. To my delight, I happened upon Pearson the Alpaca raising money for the same cause on Peebles High Street. I took some snaps and went straight home to set to work. The finished painting was sold through a silent auction and together with another appearance from Pearson, raised £520.66.

Nothing can be better than spotting a red squirrel in the wild. Sadly all too rare a sight but thriving in conservation areas such as Cushenden in Northern Ireland where this beauty was spotted.

This is ‘Walter’, the utterly charming pig who lives at Traquair House and always comes trotting over to say hello. I couldn’t resist painting him.

I watched this proud mummy from afar as she cautiously watched me, her little calf pottering around behind her. It was a cold day but the sunlight captured her beautifully.

This fella was mooching about one morning shining bright gold. I thought about calling him ‘Golden Wonder’ but realised that sounded too much like a bag of crisps so I just decided to call him Gary instead.
